The New Year is here, and with that comes high hopes of making it the BEST year yet. As with the start of every new year, we set resolutions and promise ourselves that THIS will be the “year of Y O U”!
…And listen, I am all for it- but you have to be SMART about it, folks!
After a month, nearly half- HALF of resolutions have been throw in the trash and never thought of again (until next year :)) and only 8% of people tend to consider themselves successful.
…Those stats are pitiful if you ask me.
So why, WHY do we keep setting ourselves up for failure year after year?
First of all, participating in the tradition of setting resolutions is fun. Secondly, the start of a new year brings confidence and we actually believe we have our life together enough to accomplish the darn things this year.
But enough is enough- Let’s do it! With a few tips and trick, this WILL be your year. Using the strategies below, there is no doubt that you will be triumphing over your resolutions in no time.
- Don’t Be An All or Nothing Thinker
Too often we get too tough on ourselves. If one thing does not go right then we throw everything else down the drain. Be flexible in your attempts to reach your goals and get out of the all or nothing mentality.
- Be Realistic
It is great to set goals, but setting ones that are unrealistic is only setting yourself up for failure in the long run. Be honest with yourself and set resolutions that are not too far-fetched.
- Set Attainable Milestones
Once you have your resolutions set, give yourself small and attainable milestones to keep yourself on track. These little check points will help keep you motivated while making progress towards your goal.
- Track Your Progress
It can be easy to forget where our starting point was at the beginning of the year, so track progress by taking pictures, measurements or notes to set your baseline. Then, track your progress each week or month depending on your resolution goals. This will allow you to see if you are moving in the right direction or need to make some changes to your current strategy.
So what will it be? Are you going to add to those pitiful statistics or rise to the occasion and triumph over your resolutions in 2016?
I would love to hear your strategies for triumphing in the comments section below.
